My roommate took me on an adventure to surf some Oregon waves. It was tough, but a great time. I'm the 23rd new person she has taken onto the waves. I rented gear for $40 from a place in Philomath, and we surfed Agate Beach in Newport.
The weather at Newport was 50° and sunny, which rarely happens in an Oregon winter. I grabbed a 10' fishing rod, some 1 oz. and 2 oz. pyramid sinkers, and some Gulp Night Crawlers. Fishing the jetty was a new challenge. I lost 2 rigging setups, due to rocks, and another was lost during casting. The 2 oz. sinker was needed to cast out to point A, but it caught on the large boulders at point B and C. My sea bass was actually caught when my cast went to point B 75 feet towards the coast. The retrieve followed the Jetty, and the sea bass popped out of a crevice in the rocks to snag my hook. The Tilly Jane A-Frame is a short 3 mile hike from the Cooper Spur Sno-Park. Make sure to bring sno-shoes or cramp-ons for the icy trail, and also a sno-park permit for your vehicle. The weather wasn't too cold, and the A-frame was a great destination. This adventure took 3 days (1 for gathering equipment, 1 to get to the A-frame from Corvallis, and 1 to get back home). My recent adventure was to a hot spring 1 hour East of Eugene. The road near Cougar Reservoir was littered with ice and rocks that fell onto the road. One ice chunk fell so recently that I saw it skid across the road in front of the car. The view was amazing from the parking area for the hot springs.
There was a $6 fee per person to get into the hot springs, and I didn't take pictures of it. Clothes were optional, so decency says cameras are not optional. Google it to see pictures of the cascading pools. It was a great adventure!
Some friends and I hopped over to Iceland for a music festival, http://icelandairwaves.is/. We found waterfalls, black sand, friendly people, some great music, and the nothern lights. Super cold and amazing. This adventure celebrated my graduation from the MBA program at OSU. It lasted 3 weeks and visited Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, and Sweden. I researched different woodworking designers and met some great people. An 18 hour layover in the Newark Airport gave me the opportunity to take a ferry past Ellis Island and say hello to Lady Liberty. The first week was spent on Oahu attending a 'love and friendship' party at a wonderful place just 150 yards from the prime snorkeling spot on the island, Shark's Cove. The second week was on Kauai, meeting new people and having awesome adventures. Check out this Youtube video that someone else made of the tunnel hike. The tunnel hike had mud that went past the knees, lots of narrow paths, and steep muddy slopes. Do the hike early in the day, and prepare for an intense outing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PX_Lw2ZxdTE Next time I want to do the Napali Coast: http://www.hawaiistateparks.org/parks/kauai/napali.cfm |
